The Department of Pediatrics D at Schneider Children’s Medical Center of Israel provides comprehensive inpatient care for children from birth through age 18 who are coping with a wide range of medical conditions, including chronic and medically complex illnesses. Children admitted to the department are referred from throughout Israel and benefit from advanced multidisciplinary care tailored to their individual needs. Located on the sixth floor of the Glass Building, Department of Pediatrics D is the newest pediatric department at Schneider Children’s. The department previously served as the Department of Returnees, providing dedicated medical and emotional care for children, mothers, female soldiers, and civilians returning from captivity in Gaza.

A Child-Focused Hospitalization Experience
Schneider Children’s Medical Center of Israel was established as a hospital dedicated entirely to children, with special attention given to their unique emotional, developmental, and medical needs.
From the hospital’s architectural design to its educational center, recreational activities, and family-centered approach, every aspect of care is designed to create a supportive and reassuring environment for children and their accompanying parents.
Treatment, Research and Teaching
Department of Pediatrics D provides care for children with a broad spectrum of medical conditions requiring hospitalization.
The department’s medical team has extensive experience in treating medically complex pediatric patients with diverse conditions, including infectious diseases, pulmonary disorders, rheumatologic diseases, and many other pediatric illnesses.
Alongside clinical care, the department is actively involved in medical teaching and professional training.
Physician Rounds
9:30 AM–12:00 PM - Examination by the child’s attending physician
12:00 PM–3:00 PM - Senior physician rounds together with the attending physician
Nursing Care
The department’s nursing staff provides care around the clock in three shifts a day.
At the beginning of each shift, every nurse is assigned responsibility for several children, ensuring each patient receives attentive, personalized, and professional care. Families are encouraged to approach the nursing staff with any question or request.
Meeting with the Department Director
The Department Director, Prof. Dario Prais, is available for meetings by appointment. Meetings with a senior physician from the department may also be arranged.

Meeting with the Head of Nursing
Head of Nursing Liron Benayoun is available to assist families and respond to questions and requests between 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM.
Discharge and Follow-Up Care
The decision regarding discharge is made during morning physician rounds.
A discharge letter will be provided following the physician’s examination, usually around 3:00 PM. Before discharge, families will receive detailed guidance regarding ongoing care, medications, and any required follow-up.
