Prof. Efi Bilavsky has been appointed Director of the Infectious Diseases Unit at Schneider Children's. He replaces Prof. Itzik Levy, who served in this capacity for the past few years and recently retired.
The Infectious Diseases Unit provides medical services to hopsitalized children and consults with medical teams regarding infectious diseases. It also operates an outpatient clinic, conducts expansive research concerning a range of issues in the field as well as providing training on an ongoing basis to medical students and residents.
Prof. Bilavsky, 49, is a resident of Herzliya and married to Dr. Havatzelet Yarden, Deputy Director of Pediatrics A at Schneider Children's. They have 3 children. Prof. Bilavsky completed his medical studies at Tel Aviv University and specialized in pediatrics at Schneider. Thereafter, he sub-specialized in infectious diseases at Tel Aviv Medical Center. Over recent years, he served as a senior physician in Pediatrics C at Schneider Children's.
Prof. Bilavsky's research focuses on congenital infections in general and congenital Cytomegalovirus (CMV) in particular. A large clinic operates in the hospital which simultaneously conducts clinical and academic activities. Prof. Bilavsky also fulfils other public roles including Treasurer of the Israel Pediatric Associaltion and Head of Pediatrics at Tel Aviv University.
Prof. Bilavsky said that "I have received the reins of the most important unit in the hospital. I thank the hospital management for their faith in me, and personally express my gratitude to Prof. Levy for his leadership and years of significant accomplishment on behalf of the Unit and the children in the hospital."
